Room 3

Picture of Magdalen College > Chaplains Quad > Staircase 2 > Room 3 Facilities: Basin

This is a pleasant pair of rooms in Chaplain's quad, right above to post room. The staircase is well equipped with bathroom facilities, with a good shower and two toilets. Kitchen facilities in this area of college are pretty poor, the kitchen is tiny with no workspace to speak of and a Baby Belling cooker. The rooms are in the attic of the building and have slanting walls. The rooms are unusually split down the middle, with a large sitting room and a narrower bed room. Natural light is abysmal owing to the crenelations, and college does not provide adequate artificial lighting. The room is very close to chapel and the tower, which means you get a regular chorus of bells on daily basis. You get used to these pretty quickly, however the room is unbearable whenever the tower is ringing a peal. The distribution of power sockets throughout the room is a bit awkward, particularly in the bed room. The room is next door to the Scout's cupboard. The staircase is small and has a good friendly atmosphere. The rooms are pleasant once you've sorted some proper lighting and would make good 2nd or 4th year rooms. Obviously the location is ideal for the post room or one of the college piano rooms (on the ground floor).

Bedroom

The bedroom is slightly narrower than the living room. The bed is fitted into the room and might be unsuitable for anyone particularly tall. There is a sink, cupboard (fitted, with a curtain and with storage space on top), chest of drawers and two drawers in the bed unit. There is one window, which catches light from the tower illumination (turned off at 2am).

Reception room

The living room area is spacious and has a long shelf running along one side of the room under the eaves. The room has two windows though is poorly lit due to the crenelations. It has an assortment of chairs and tables, a bookshelf, a desk and the usual amenities.
